Homeschool Cooperative Educating in Central Florida

Registration - SO Class

HCECF's next session of science classes geared to the Elementary A2 Science Olympiad Competition to be held Saturday, 4/17/10 from APPROXIMATELY  8 am – 4 pm. You must be a member of HCECF to take our science classes.

A2 division is 3rd - 5th grade - approximate ages would be 8-11
years old. If you have an interested child who does NOT fall with in
that age range above on the day of the competition and would like to compete, but is close to it, talk to denny.

Any age can take this class, but we are restricted on the ages that can compete in this competition.

Meeting Wednesdays at Magnolia Park in Apopka.
Class is held 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
*There are optional classes available this day: PE at 11:00 am, Lunch at 12:00 pm, PE at 1:00 pm and
a variable class at 2:00 pm, all also on Wednesdays, so folks can
make a day of it if they chose.

Class dates are Wednesdays 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28. (Yes, we know two classes are held after the regional tournament).

Regional qualifying competition - Saturday 4/17

State competition - Saturday 5/15

Cost for the session is $50 per kid – this works out to $5 per class. If your kid participated in the previous SECME science class we are offering a $10 discount on this class.

A sapphire/teal color HCECF shirt is required for all participants
and coaches. It is strongly encouraged for parents. This is our
standard HCECF shirt (the non-lego, non-pe one). These shirts will
be available for purchase, if you don't already have one. Remember,
the new cost of these is $15 because printing costs increased back
in September '07.

PLEASE also donate any of the items on the supply list that you have lying around at home.
Class is NON-REFUNDABLE because materials are pre-paired in advance.

Homework is given, and your kid will get the most educational
benefit from this class if they do the homework assignments.
Homework will be assigned at two different levels – grammar stage
(1st – 4th) and logic stage (5th – 8th), you decide which is most
appropriate for your kid.

Class size is LIMITED. Please register your intent to attend with your
FIRM COMMITMENT on that link no later than 2/28 and make payment
arrangements by 3/5. PLEASE pay sooner rather than later, since I
don't want to personally front the cost of everyones supplies! As always, science class supplies will include your notebook, class handouts, nature journal and pencils.

We'll give every kid the oppurtunity to compete in as many events as is practical within the rules and limitations of the contest. Competition event placement will be decided by the teachers and is primarily a function of when your payment was recieved and attendance.
