Junior FIRST LEGO League
JrFLL introduces the youngest students to the exciting world's of science and technology
Just like FLL, this program features a real-world challenge, to be solved by research, critical thinking and imagination. Guided by adult coaches, students work with LEGO elements and moving parts to create solutions and present them for review at HCECF's JrFLL Smart Moves Expo on May 24, 2010.
JrFLL is geared to children aged 6 to 9 years old and utilizes a modified framework of FIRST LEGO® League. Younger children are permitted to participate also. Teams of up to 6 children and an adult mentor receive a mini challenge, which is based on the FLL annual research project. They will design a model depicting an aspect of this year's "Smart Moves" Challenge. Children will spend approximately a month (20-ish classroom hours) exploring, investigating, designing, and building a model made with LEGO bricks on a 15" x 15" base plate. In conjunction, teams create a "Show Me" poster that depicts the teams' experience during this process, through drawings and words.
HCECF students get to:
Design and build challenge solutions using LEGO elements
Apply real-world math and science concepts
Research challenges facing today's scientists
Learn team-building and presentation skills
Develop Show-Me posters
