The 2005, 2006 and 2007 drum building campouts were a blast! As was the initial 2004, drum building workshop - no camping the first year. Thanks to all  the beautiful people who came out to build and play. The 2008 Drum Building Campout and Learning in the Park dates are May 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2008. Registration CLOSES soon!

Drumming & Learning Weekend Campout 2008

HCECF's Annual Drum Building Campout and Learning in the Park Engineering Workshops

Join us May 2nd - May 4th 2008 for a weekend of creative learning fun.

This Learning in the Park event features a  FULL weekend of fun at Magnolia Park in Apopka, Florida for ALL homeschooling families.

*Camping - homeschool group tent camping, RV camping sites or daytrip options.

*Drum Building Workshops for kids, teens and adults with McK-Kreations. Homeschoolers everywhere love this annual event. HCECF is pleased to make drum building workshops available to all homeschoolers again for the fifth year in a row.

*Nightly Community Bonfire Drum Circles bring your graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate to make smores. You also want to bring your drums or other instruments!

*Engineering Workshops with the engineers of the Central Florida section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), American Society  of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and local engineering firms for kids and teens.

*Question and Answer session for teens considering careers in the engineering fields.

*Chalk It Up chalk art contest

*Free goodie bags  full of homeschool information and discounts, magazines, etc.

*Raffles

*Junk in the Trunk  homeschool sale, swap, barter,  trade or giveaway. Informal event, self-run activity, pick a spot and set up!

*Portfolio Evaluations students in a home education program can have their annual evaluation with Elaine Tolvo or Katie Keebler at the campout.

*Demonstrations -  medieval history demos with fighting and the arts.

*Guided Nature Walk & Talks,  plus Crafts for kids & teens

*Remote Control Car Races - a simple track will be set up, plus there is also a small pond for RC boats. Bring your own cars and extra batteries!

*Spring Egg Hunt

*Planned PE activity - fitness walk, plus the ability and equipment on site to do pick up games of volleyball, basketball, kickball, etc.

*Great sand volleyball court, basketball court and THREE playgrounds. Other recreation activities you can enjoy at beautiful Magnolia Park - fishing, boating in Lake Apopka, skating, bike riding, skateboarding, hiking. Be sure your kids have the appropriate safety equipment. Bike helmets are required!

Magnolia Park information

Magnolia Park is a beautiful 56 acre park off of County Rd 437 (also called Ocoee-Apopka Rd, Binion Rd, or Boy Scout Bv). There are two separate park areas - each fenced and separated by CR 437- on the Lake Apopka side you'll find the fishing and boat docks. On the other side of the street is where we'll be for camping, drumming, engineering workshops and everything else!
